Mayor Barlow announces 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration in Oswego

City of Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow announced today the schedule and list of activities for the 2018 4th of July Independence Day Celebration in Oswego.  Mayor Barlow also announced the opening of parade participation applications and encouraged local organizations to participate in the parade as the theme this year will be “Hometown Pride”.  The Independence Day Parade will start at 1:00pm on Sunday July 1st along State Route 104 from the Oswego High School to Fort Ontario.  Following the parade, festivities including food concessions, face painting, bounce houses and entertainment will be in Breitbeck Park starting at 6:00pm. The featured band, Nik and the Nice Guys will begin at 7:30pm with the firework display over the Oswego Harbor launching at 9:45pm.

“The 2018 Independence Day celebration will be a day filled with excitement as we’ve worked to build the event by adding more activities and entertainment in Breitbeck Park before the fireworks,” Barlow said.  “The theme of “hometown pride” will hopefully encourage participants to promote the positive energy growing throughout our community and highlight our rich history, culture and assets.  We are working hard to organize the best event possible and make the day enjoyable for Oswego families and the surrounding community,” Barlow continued.

Organizations and prospective parade participants should contact the City of Oswego Economic Development Office to submit a participation form at 44 East Bridge Street, Oswego or call 315-343-3795. Participation forms can also be found on the City of Oswego’s website or by contacting Director Justin Rudgick at [email protected].  The registration deadline is Tuesday June 8, 2018.

The City will be offering cash prizes for float entries with a large focus on youth participants.

Cash prizes will include: Best Float - $750 (increased from $500 in the previous year), Best Community / Patriotic Float - $500, Most Creative Float - $500, Best Youth Performance - $250, and Best Non-Youth Performance - $250.

“The City of Oswego is proud to organize and host the annual Independence Day Parade. Celebrating our country’s rich heritage and patriotism with a parade and fireworks has long been a part of our City’s tradition. We are truly excited to bring you a parade that Oswego residents will remember proudly,” Mayor Barlow concluded.
