Mayor Barlow Announces Partnership with WBUC, City Government Meetings to Air on TV
Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow today announced a new partnership with the Oswego City School District and the Oswego High School television station “WBUC.” Mayor Barlow has partnered with WBUC to begin broadcasting the City of Oswego committee and Common Council meetings on television for Oswego residents to view from their homes.
“Transparency in government is an absolute necessity, and by airing City government meetings on television, we give our constituents the opportunity to closely monitor their local government and follow along as we make decisions that impact their daily life. It is important to encourage our residents to pay attention, be informed and interact with their local officials,” said Mayor Barlow. “I have worked hard to limit the amount of closed door executive sessions during my administration, (January 2016 – September 2017) in which three of those were mandatory to discuss City contract negotiations. In 2016, we also established a City of Oswego ethics board to increases accountability and enforcement of the City ethics code. By placing our meetings on television, we further increase transparency, accountability and accessibility, as we serve our neighbors here at City Hall,” Mayor Barlow said.
“I am also proud to partner with the Oswego City School District and WBUC, as we work together to bring local government directly into the homes of our constituents. I would like to thank Director of Technology Jamie Sykut, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dean Goewey and the Oswego City School District Board of Education for being supportive of this partnership and allowing the City of Oswego to broadcast our meetings,” the Mayor concluded.
City of Oswego committee meetings occur on the first and third Monday of every month at 6:30 pm at Oswego City Hall, and the Oswego Common Council meetings occur the second and fourth Monday of every month at 7:30 pm at Oswego City Hall. Each meeting will air on WBUC, cable channel 16 in the City of Oswego, on the following Thursday at 5:00 pm and will play on a loop throughout the weekend.
